There’s so much to think about when it comes to a residential move that many pet parents overlook how stressful a move can be for their pooch. Because we’re your expert LaGrange moving company, we know how important it is for every member of your family, even the furry ones, to be comfortable during your move.
Here’s how to put together the perfect moving kit for your dog.
Use a Crate
Your dog may love putting his head out the window on short drives to the dog park and veterinary clinic, but moving isn’t the time to let your dog’s safety slip. If you have other items in the car, or if you’re moving a long distance, our LaGrange residential movers recommend placing your dog in a crate.
Your dog should be able to stand up comfortably in his crate, and he should be able to turn around a full 360 degrees. Make the crate even more comfortable by placing a blanket on the bottom, and give him something to chew on during the trip.
Medical and Personal Information
You never know what could happen during a move. Make sure you’re covered, no matter what surprise you’re faced with, by bringing along your dog’s medical and personal information.
Make sure he’s wearing a collar with a tag that contains your contact information, and bring along paperwork from your vet’s office. After all, you’ll have to find a new one near your new home, and having your dog’s medical information will make things easier.
Put a Special Doggy Bag in the Car
It’s important to pack a special box of all the essential items you’ll need to unpack first at your new home, but it’s also important to travel with a bag of your dog’s essential items.
Put your dog’s bowls, as well as food and clean water, in the bag. You should also pack a few toys and treats. If your dog takes medication, put them in the bag as well. That way, whenever you make a pit stop, you have everything you need within arm’s reach.
And, don’t forget a few wet wipes to keep your car, the crate, and your dog clean! For more tips on moving with a dog, give our LaGrange movers a call. We’ll make sure your move goes smoothly, even if you have a pet.
